I'd like to pass along two more anti-noise resources: Todd Hamo's new blog, The Daily Decibel, rounds up noise news around the country. And the website for the Council on the Environment of NYC, the same people who bring you the Greenmarket, has useful information about noise pollution, put together by Arline Bronzaft.

After banning the sale and installation of certain car alarms, New York's City Council recently passed Mayor Bloomberg's proposal to overhaul the City's noise code. Thanks to everyone who wrote letters and made phone calls to help pass these bills!

If you live in New York: Car alarms remain a problem, but there are two groups still working to quiet them. The first, non-profit advocacy group Transportation Alternatives, has been leading this campaign for the last few years. Please support their work.

Richard Tur, long active with Silent Majority, has recently formed his own New York group to fight noise pollution, called Noise Off. Check it out!

If you have particular noise problems in your neighborhood, look up your local City Council member here, and call his or her district office. Identify yourself as a constituent, and urge the Council member to make sure the noise code is getting enforced.

If you live outside New York: Please contact the Noise Pollution Clearinghouse for help on setting up an anti-car alarm group where you live.
